Traveler of the Void
« on: May 20, 2016, 05:00:05 AM »
“I like to believe there's always something worth fighting for.”

About him

Name: Graham Bourne
Maturity: Adult
Alias: Gray

Appearance: He seems to be a rather soft-spoken man, in his mid or late twenties. His eyes are a serious brown hue, often holding an almost stern gaze. His features seem hardened, perhaps something has been burdening his mind and soul for quite a while. While not the pinnacle of athletic prowess, he does seem fit and well cared for. He often wears a button up shirt, with trousers and a belt, black shoes and a dark coat worn above.

Temperament: Survivor.
Nothing stops you. Hardened by previous ordeals, you’ve developed a sense of self-preservation that keeps you going when lesser souls surrender to the odds. You’ve got little patience or sympathy for people who won’t do whatever it takes to endure hardship. “Shut up and step up or get the fuck out of my way” is your motto. Other folks might not make it through, but their weakness won’t lead to your death.
Perseverance is your defining trait. You do what you need to do with what you have to work with. Obstacles are just logistics, and excuses never healed a broken leg.
Your weakness, though, is a profound Callousness. You’ve shut down so much in order to keep going that folks often wonder if you feel anything at all

Story

“Courage is grace under pressure.” – Hemingway

There was bleak hiss that dragged out from the tree. It shuddered for a second, then the green withered to a lifeless brown. There was a cascade of leaves tumbling to the ground, non-existent wind dragged them away.
A sharper whine emanated from his abdomen, a sharp metallic rod jutted into his side. The skin had been broken, blood touched around the rusted metal and pain sprang from it in wakes.
   "Suit's integrity has been compromised."
   "I know."
He hadn't intended to snap at her, but his voice came out sharper than he desired. The voice quieted down as he inched his hand down, "Increase the production of endorphins, cap it at fifty milligrams."
There was slight suppression to the ache, but enough of a reminder for him to feel alive. His breath slowed, a gloved hand settled around the spike, a slow pull had inch after inch of it dragged out until he could perceive the wound.
   "Is it bad?"
His eyes didn't dare glance down to see for himself.
   "You have experienced worse, Gray."
He chuckled. He reached around, dragging off his pack as he slumped down to sit. One hand maintained pressure while the other reached for a strip, he hastily tore off a segment from the roll and applied it over the suit. Several more followed.
   "Suit Integrity restored."

   He trudged on forward.
   Don't look back.
The road was a beaten and worn out trail, houses tattered an abandoned rested nearby, the occasional carving seemed quite out of place on the sides of some. Predatory eyes gazed at him from the windows, but none dared approach him.
   "Sir.."
   "Hm?"
   Silence.
"I'm detecting the anamoly's Quintessential resonance. The gauntlet is thinning with every meter, I can't locate the gray zone between each layer.""
His eyes wandered around for a moment, his footsteps had came to a halt.
   "Where?"
"Everywhere. We're right atop of it."
He relaxed a bit, almost scolding himself for not having noticed earlier.
'Attune your eyes and heart. It isn't something your data can find. It's something you feel.'
   He did so.
It was a tired road, but with enough perception it was surely something of importance. It almost made him feel sorry for the state it was in, the beaten dirt trail hadn't seen all too many travelers in quite a while. Patches of brown foliage ran across in some portions.
   "What was its name again?"
"It's one of the Paths of the Wyck."

Zoinks! You need to have more technocrats to do anything and survive the massive backlash.
Just saying.

He isn't a black suit, if that's what you're wondering. It'll be fine.
