Title: Custom System: "Starting Over" Character Deaths / Legacy Powers
Post by: Raven on February 18, 2020, 04:05:39 AM
You've developed a character for years, amassed hundreds of experience points and powers, then fell in battle and lost it all. Now you're at a loss as to where to go from there. Starting over usually sucks. Well, papi Raven will try to make it suck less.

This program will allow you to step in your character's footsteps and begin your story anew. This will merely kickstart things so you don't have to go from zero. First of all, this will only apply to you if you've lost a character in a meaningful roleplay scene, often an event, and IF you have a backup of your character's features and sheet. Forced character kills (usually from a fuckup) don't count towards this. This is for well developed characters who met an untimely death.

Walking in your character's footsteps:
Important: This system only applies when your new character has the same foundation as the previous one. In essence, it has to be a character from the same Clan, House, Tribe, Faction, etc and have roughly the same background. If you were CK'd on an Assamite, you won't be able to start over as a Brujah and claim the benefits of this. A Nephandi player has to play another Nephandi. If you want to go for a Verbenae you'd have to re-apply.

Eligibility Requirements:
- 1 Namechange token;
- 1 Racechange token (may or may not be needed).
- The Character Death was not a result of stupidity, boredom (/pm admin ck me pls), nor forced unto you due to breaking the rules.
- A screenshot of your character's Roleplay Features, Experience Log and Character Sheet.

Options:
- You may start over with a new account. No tokens will be required.
- You can start over on a secondary account. A RC/NC token may be necessary.
- You start over on the same account. A namechange token will be necessary.

Benefits:

TL:DR.
If you were CK'd in a meaningful scene, you can PM management and get a small XP boost on a character that is more or less the same as the previous one. You will not have to re-apply for the stuff you originally applied for and be able to focus on other development.

In order to further trim down applications, we'll be adding a new refund system for powers. If you meet the requirements, you will be able to acquire powers without having to go through the hassle of writing another story for stuff you already acquired once before.

How does it work?:
Important: This system does not apply to powers acquired through donations!

If you previously acquired any given power on a character through an application, be it an Edge, a Lore, a vampiric Discipline, a Gift or an Art - you will be able to get it on another character (be it a secondary char or following the previous one's death) without having to write another story/explanation for said acquisiton.

You will still make one application and define the terms of what can and cannot be refunded. Once that is approved, whenever you have XP you will be able to immediately have the power added in through a simple /helpme.

Eligibility Requirements:
- Screenshot/archived evidence of you having had that power on a character.
- Transparency in terms of what was donated for and what was applied for with a story.
- A Mentor, Library or other backgrounds that justify your new character's acquisition of that power.
- New flaws (if necessary) when taking powers that so demand them. (I.E. hunted by clan Tremere when taking Thaumaturgy)
- The power is not restricted to a given clan in general. (I.E. Koldunic Sorcery, certain Tribal Gifts, etc)

[!] Powers re-acquired through the Legacy system do not interfere with your learning downtimes and are separate!

[!] Powers re-acquired through the Legacy system incur a penalty of 2 XP per dot of a given power.

[!] You can use the format specific to your Race when applying for the powers.

Example: Nastas had an Elder Brujah once upon a time. He makes a new character that's in fact a Sabbat Gangrel! Having played Vampire for so long, he doesn't need to waste his time rewriting another application for each individual power he intends to get. He makes a single application and is able to immediately snag Celerity, Potence and what have you - with the notable exception of a Combo Discipline exclusive to Camarilla members.

Said Brujah also had ties with clan Tremere and acquired limited access to Thaumaturgy, he would be able to buy those too - however in the new context it would imply tresspassing on the interests of the Clan. Therefore, he acquires a 4pt flaw that results in him being hounded. He also needs a mentor background that attests to his new ties with the antitribu or something of the sort.

Furthermore, for the powers he doesn't wish to learn separately, he must pay 2 extra XP for each dot.
So, buying Thaumaturgy 3 as Out of Clan will cost him 12+9+16 (instead of 10 + 7 + 14) XP.

//

These will generally be handled by managers and common sense will be applied.
A Neberu that used to play an Annunaki will be able to redeem Lore of the Earth and Fundament 5 easily so long as they pay, but Lore of the Forge not so much. Likewise, a Glass Walker that played Get of Fenris might snag a few common tier equivalent gifts, but iconic Get gifts will be off limit.

Have fun. Don't abuse.
Apply and it will be discussed there.
