3.1 Tell us some things about yourself:
My name is Malcolm Dumont, and I come from a background shaped by observation, patience, and an unwavering belief in the power of truth. I’ve always been the type of person who watches first, speaks second, and acts only when certainty demands it. Over the years, I found myself naturally drawn to situations where conflict required calm judgement—disputes between neighbours, workplace issues, or even small-town tensions. People often came to me not because I was loud, but because they trusted my sense of fairness. I carry that quality with me proudly. At my core, I’m a man who believes that justice comes from clarity, consistency, and respect for the people it protects.
3.2 Provide an overview of your education and upbringing:
I was raised in a humble household that valued hard work and discipline. My parents taught me early that a person’s word was the most valuable thing they owned, and breaking it was the quickest way to lose yourself. My upbringing wasn’t privileged, but it was rich in structure and responsibility. In school, I gravitated toward subjects that demanded critical thinking—ethics, history, and communication. I continued my education through community college, focusing on social sciences and conflict resolution. My interest in human behaviour and the causes of violence led me to further training in mediation and crisis assessment. Everything about my upbringing encouraged me to understand people deeply, judge them fairly, and help restore order when situations turned volatile.
3.3 Why have you decided to join the Sheriff's Department?
I want to serve in a place where my experience with conflict resolution and my personal values can directly protect the community. Over the years, I’ve seen how quickly misunderstandings escalate when there is no stable authority present. Joining the Sheriff’s Department is the natural extension of who I already am; a mediator, a protector, and a believer in accountability. The badge, to me, isn’t just a symbol of authority; it’s a responsibility to stand between harm and the people who cannot defend themselves. I want to use the skills I’ve built to ensure that the law is not just enforced but understood, trusted, and respected.
3.4 What are your expectations from this job?
I expect this job to challenge me, sharpen me, and give me a greater understanding of the community I aim to serve. The Sheriff’s Department represents order, stability, and trust, and I expect to contribute to that with both discipline and integrity. I’m prepared for long hours, difficult cases, and situations that push emotional limits.
3.5 Define the skills you possess that are well suited for the department.
My strongest skills are communication, conflict de-escalation, and analytical thinking. I have a natural talent for reading people—understanding their intentions, stress reactions, and emotional states—and using that insight to calm tense situations before they turn violent. Years of informal mediation experience have made me patient and exceptionally good at listening. I also possess excellent observational skills; I pick up on inconsistencies, environmental cues, and behaviour patterns that others might miss. Additionally, I’m physically disciplined, mentally steady under pressure, and capable of making rapid decisions without compromising fairness.
By submitting this application I acknowledge that I have not been banned from applying for the APSD and am in good standing with the department. I hereby claim that nothing in this application is submitted to be false or of a deceitful nature and everything aforementioned in this application is of 100% accuracy and honesty. I take full responsibility for any recruitment policy violation.
