Guides & Tutorials / Re: Custom System: Legacy Powers
« on: December 08, 2022, 23:17:00 PM »
In order to further trim down applications, we'll be adding a new refund system for powers. If you meet the requirements, you will be able to acquire powers without having to go through the hassle of writing another story for stuff you already acquired once before.

How does it work?:
Important: This system does not apply to powers acquired through donations!

If you previously acquired any given power on a character through an application, be it an Edge, a Lore, a vampiric Discipline, a Gift or an Art - you will be able to get it on another character (be it a secondary char or following the previous one's death) without having to write another story/explanation for said acquisiton.

You will still make one application and define the terms of what can and cannot be refunded. Once that is approved, whenever you have XP you will be able to immediately have the power added in through a simple /helpme.

Eligibility Requirements:
- Screenshot/archived evidence of you having had that power on a character.
- Transparency in terms of what was donated for and what was applied for with a story.
- A Mentor, Library or other backgrounds that justify your new character's acquisition of that power.
- New flaws (if necessary) when taking powers that so demand them. (I.E. hunted by clan Tremere when taking Thaumaturgy)
- The power is not restricted to a given clan in general. (I.E. Koldunic Sorcery, certain Tribal Gifts, etc)

[!] Powers re-acquired through the Legacy system do not interfere with your learning downtimes and are separate!

[!] Powers re-acquired through the Legacy system incur a penalty of 2 XP per dot of a given power.

[!] You can use the format specific to your Race when applying for the powers.

Example: Nastas had an Elder Brujah once upon a time. He makes a new character that's in fact a Sabbat Gangrel! Having played Vampire for so long, he doesn't need to waste his time rewriting another application for each individual power he intends to get. He makes a single application and is able to immediately snag Celerity, Potence and what have you - with the notable exception of a Combo Discipline exclusive to Camarilla members.

Said Brujah also had ties with clan Tremere and acquired limited access to Thaumaturgy, he would be able to buy those too - however in the new context it would imply tresspassing on the interests of the Clan. Therefore, he acquires a 4pt flaw that results in him being hounded. He also needs a mentor background that attests to his new ties with the antitribu or something of the sort.

Furthermore, for the powers he doesn't wish to learn separately, he must pay 2 extra XP for each dot.
So, buying Thaumaturgy 3 as Out of Clan will cost him 12+9+16 (instead of 10 + 7 + 14) XP.

//

These will generally be handled by managers and common sense will be applied.
A Neberu that used to play an Annunaki will be able to redeem Lore of the Earth and Fundament 5 easily so long as they pay, but Lore of the Forge not so much. Likewise, a Glass Walker that played Get of Fenris might snag a few common tier equivalent gifts, but iconic Get gifts will be off limit.

Have fun. Don't abuse.
Apply and it will be discussed there.

VWH-RP

- Vampires, Werewolves & Humans roleplay -

VWH is a role-playing server running on the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Multiplayer mod) platform. It features several supernatural playable races from the popular World of Darkness series intended for tabletop or LARP. This landing page serves as an index to guide you through the basics and give you an idea of how the server functions.
            To start with an introduction...
This game is a live server you can join at any time through the (GTA: San Andreas Multiplayer) SA:MP  platform. You will first start as a human character and get a feel for the server, until you acquire the basic knowledge to get you through an application. Once you pass that hurdle, you will be able to get a supernatural character. You may select any one of the following: Vampires, Ghouls, Werewolves and Fera, Kinfolk, Demons, Thralls, Mages, Changelings, Kinain, Hybrids, Imbued Hunters, etc. Some races are more complex than others, and to that end the requirements that must be met to qualify for one are different also. The guide above outlines all of the options and additional noteworthy server features.

            Supernatural applications...
As mentioned earlier, you must possess a bare level of knowledge before you can be entrusted with a supernatural character. Despite our willingness to rid ourselves of the bureaucratic approach and white-listing, it is a step that remains necessary to ensure fair play and a certain level of quality of roleplay. To move beyond playing a human, you must pass an application. Acquiring a high generation vampire or low-ranked werewolf are the easiest options, but we also allow players to undergo direct mentorship under a veteran player to get the desired race. The Initiation Program allows you to try and learn a race's systems and lore during the course of a month, after which you are given a quiz test. Succeed, and you keep the character.

            Server setting
The server is set in the early 2000's, in a corner of the San Andreas islands - in Whestone / Flint County areas. This abandoned corner of rural countryside has many myths and legends tied to it, which over the years drew many supernaturals in search for the mysteries lurking in its deep caverns. Despite failing to discover anything of note, wars are still waged over the small town neighbouring the mountain. The greatest relic left from bygone times and the mystery all seek to unearth is Folnkirk, an underground town that serves a haven to supernaturals.

How do I install the game?
There is a readily available guide and many youtube tutorials to installing the game. You can either purchase the game on Steam and downgrade it with a mod, or get a .rar installer from the internet (links in the guide). A third party mod (SA:MP) allows you to play it with other people. If you have any difficulties following this guide, please do not hesitate to contact any member of the staff. We'll promptly help set you up! There's bound to be someone on the Discord who can get to you within minutes.
• Install the base game: (Download)
• Install the San Andreas Multiplayer modification: (Download)
• Connect to the IP address: play.vwh-rp.tk:7777

How do I create a character?
All you have to do is simply register in-game with the name you've selected for your character. FirstName_LastName - John_Doe
You will then pass a short English & server rules quiz. You will then spawn in your motel room and therein begins your adventure.

You will be prompted to select a skin for your character. The full list is available here.
You may change that at a later time so no need to second-guess it too much.

Your next step will be to fill up your character sheet and pick up your advantages. (see below)
Optionally, you can set a /cd (character description) to distinguish yourself from other characters.

After that, you are free to roam, get a job or go meet other players.

            Character Sheets & Advantages
Your character will naturally excel at some things and suck at others. You are able to use points to assign a number of starting traits and advantages that will define what you are good (and not so good) at. Depending on what you want your character to be, you might opt for combat-traits, or instead make them a more socially driven party chad. This might seem like a complex brain-wracking step, but it is well worth the read. You will be able to select a number of flaws and upsides that give your character more depth. This guide dives into how you can attribute your starting points and freebies. This is a sheet with advantages and flaws samples that you can pick from. You can select a maximum of 22 points worth of merits, if you take a minimum total of 7 point flaws. You can seek help from veteran players or staff if you are unsure about your selections.

You can also skip the prior stage entirely, and just set up your Character Traits, namely Attributes & Abilities. As your character acquires experience points, you will be able to gradually upgrade those traits or acquire new ones.

If you need help or advice, this is the best place to get it. Join up, snag a role in the #role-requests channel and then contact a staff member or simply ask in #support. We'll get back to you as soon as possible.

            How does combat work?
There are hundreds of supernatural powers in the game, making it impossible to script them. To that end, combat is turn-based following the World of Darkness initiative system. Every turn lasts from 3 to 9 seconds in-character. The players roll initiative to determine who goes first, then declare the action they intend to perform in that turn. The actions are then rolled and the results are compared, determining the outcome of combat. You shouldn't be too pressed to learn the system, and generally other players will guide you through it should it come to that. Don't be afraid to try things and experiment. Declare the intended actions, and a storyteller will tell you what is and isn't feasible.

Should you choose to join us,
I welcome you and wish you a good experience!

I also overviewed your character-sheet after wolfed PM'd me about your issues and god dayum your entire application is a lie.

Not sure what kind of checking Loke did.

A changeling with Academics 0 who took a degree in Law and served as a cop in the NYPD despite Computer 0, Tech 0, Streetwise 0, Empathy 0.

 ???

Pure battlechad CS xp investment.

Also does it even make sense for a Changeling to be in a bureaucratic institution like the NYPD? press x.

This shouldn't be accepted because you don't qualify for anything other than a cadet at most.

Whether he gets accepted as a cadet or not does not change the fact that the application is full of shit.

Over-ruled and denied

Re-apply and truthfully fill out an application next time.

You can thank Loke for the opportunity

Update to crossover mechanics.

-Buffs are lost on a PK
-You can keep buffs if you are a Thrall, Ghoul, etc subservient to the person who gave you the buff.
-IF you have a crossover relic and that race wants to take it back, donation packages do not protect the item from being robed!

Announcements / Veil Breach and Curses
« on: February 09, 2022, 22:35:19 PM »
This is an OOC/mechanics/announcement topic so I'll keep it short and without IC fluff.
A new topic will be posted in "Around town" or "Behind the Veil" later on as people discover more about this mysterious affliction.

In essence, this is a series of debuffs that are going to be applied to players who break the Veil, wantonly use Magick with witnesses and so on and so forth. You break the veil, you get hit by the curse at the end of the scene.

If you break the veil, depending on the severity of the issue and the cause for it, a curse will be applied to your character.

It manifests in three ways:

  I. A stigma brand on one's forehead (can be concealed per distinguishing characteristic). The following roleplay feature is to be added for the duration of the curse, in addition to a /cd or declaration of having it whenever it calls for it.
Code: [Select]
Anathema Stigma: A faintly pulsating crimson mark stains your forehead and displays in aura checks.
II. A curse with an intensity rating of I to IV. Depending on the level, you will lose a certain portion of your powers, potentially making you defenseless against assailants who can then come to claim their prize.

Choose one of the curses below:
Code: (Intensity I; minor/involunary breaches) [Select]
Anathema Curse: Until "dd/mm", you are subject to a curse and may only use one energy point per turn.
*Energy defers to Quintessence, Rage, Gnosis, Faith, Glamour and Blood.

Code: (Intensity II; mild breach) [Select]
Anathema Curse: Until "dd/mm", you are subject to a mild curse and may only use passive and innate abilities.
* Per Balance HTR house rules. You can use the extra dice but not use Celerity actions, shapeshift into a wolf's breed form and assume a demon's true form.

Code: (Intensity III; major breach) [Select]
Anathema Curse: Until "dd/mm", you suffer from intense agony (-5 dicepool unless Willpower is spent per turn). * Insensate to Pain, Mind effects and Centering do not help with this.

Code: (Intensity IV; just die) [Select]
Anathema Curse: Until "dd/mm", you find yourself unable to employ any supernatural powers or abilities.

The curses stack with prior intensity levels. It gets worse the further you go.

III. As an Anathema (only until the duration lapses), other players can kill you regardless of whether you are in PvP mode. You are a danger to supernatural society.

Duration:
These come into effect starting tonight as a trial run. Durations will be somewhat in between 3 IC days to 10 IC days, but repeated abuse will increase the curse rating. (i.e. comitting 2 minor breaches).

The brands reset should you get player-killed. Throwing yourself to death to escape your curse (suicide) will be treated as a willingness to get CK'd. RP the consequences of your actions.

Any area under the lightweaves or witnessed by NPC humans will constitute a veil breach and a curse backlash at the end of the scene.

What constitutes a veil breach:
- Usage of action dicepools employing Attributes above 6 dots.
- Usage of vulgar with witnesses* magick in public or any other form of visible supernatural powers.
- Shapeshifting, invoking the Wyrd or assuming a Demon's True Form before others, whether or not Delirium works matters little.
- Knowingly killing a vampire or werewolf in public, causing their true bodies to manifest or ash respectively.
- Anything else at the storyteller's discretion that's common sense to anyone but you, apparently.
