[---]

It always starts this way, with the confusing messages. You don't understand the meaning until its too late. Until you're there, and we both know what happens to those that don't listen. Thunder boomed and rain descended onto the road below; riding down that road was one vehicle. A car, a police cruiser with its sirens echoing and lights flashing rapidly across it.

"It... it had to be this way, it'll all be okay afterwards."
"...Dawn, W-What is this..."

The cruiser drifted across the mud and a man rushed outside of it towards his home, in uniform and gun in hand he ran up the staircase onto the porch; each step heavier than the one before it.
With a shaky hand and cold breath he turned the doorknob; opened the door and just like that his world changed forever.

"We can be like they are."
"...Doesn't breathe."
"Our son, o-our baby boy, h-how could you do this, w-why, WHY would you do this?!"

Across the halfway in the kitchen crouched a woman in a pool of blood next to a child, a boy not even a teenager. Blood ran down her eyes, her lips and from the fangs awkwardly sticking out of her mouth. The grip on his revolver tightened as he raised its barrel towards her; his friend, his lover, his wife. A frown formed on her face as she clumsily stood up, no longer crouching in the blood of her firstborn son.

"I... I did what was best for our son, what was best for US! I know its confusing, but you'll soon understand too..."
"...No mercy."
"N-No, this, t-this isn't right, h-he's dead. You killed h-him..."
"Don't be afraid, I'm still me."
"No mercy!"
"That is STILL our son and he needs his father right now, now more than ever."

He closed his eyes for a second, just for a split SECOND to cope, but no - he couldn't get it. Not even that little is affordable then. She saw the opportunity and lunged at him but his sight pierced through his eyelids and that was enough for his index finger to reflexively grab and pull back the trigger, releasing a round into her skull. Thunder roared as the shot went off, ending with a thud as her body hit the floor.

"Now take what is rightfully yours."

[---]

And then silence, interrupted by the rainstorm outside but other than that nothing else. As the edge triggered he saw nothing but a monster, a walking, talking blood-thirsty corpse. His eyes widened and twitched over the horror that just occurred in front of him, in shock he crouched to his son's side and holstered his revolver clumsily. Time passed, and his son began to violently shake, moan and grunt. He stared at his son's body move with no signs of life. No pulse, no breathing, nothing.

With a calm and firm grip he took the revolver out of his holster - and brought the barrel of it gently onto his son's temple. Tears began to emerge from his eyes, they slid down his face down to his chin and eventually dropped to his son's body.

"...I'm sorry."

The body stopped shaking and its eyes started to twitch, covered by the eyelids, but before they had the chance to open a bullet whistled by and then there was no more movement. No more monsters around, unless you wish to count the father? Sometimes a person has to choose, sometimes the world forces his hand. If a man knows, what he is and remains true to himself - then choice is no choice at all. He must fulfill his destiny and become who he is meant to be. No matter how much he may hate it. That is the path of the Imbued.

The English language is like a blade in three ways. It can cut deep when wielded with competence. It appreciates pageantry. And like the blade it does not care for gender.
